How to use the TikTok video downloader
- Grab the post link. In the TikTok app, open the post, tap the Share arrow and choose Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar instead.
- Drop it in the box. Open Tiktokioo.com, tap the input box at the top of the page and paste the link. The site reads the post in about one to two seconds.
- Choose a file and save it. Pick MP4 without watermark, HD or Audio, then confirm the save. Download within the hour, because the links expire after 60 minutes.
What does Tiktokioo.com save from a TikTok link?
It saves the media files of a public TikTok post: the video as an MP4 without the watermark, an HD copy when TikTok keeps one, the sound on its own, and each photo of a slideshow. You paste one link and choose the file you want.
Tiktokioo.com is an independent tool and is not affiliated with tiktokio.com, TikTok or ByteDance. It does not log in to anyone's account and it cannot see anything that a logged-out visitor could not see.
Which tool fits your job?
The box at the top of this page is the general TikTok video downloader. Three sister tools focus on one kind of file each:
- TikTok to MP3 when you only want the sound, a voice-over or a song clip.
- The slideshow downloader for photo posts, one image per file.
- The story saver for public stories before they disappear.
Which TikTok posts can you download, and which can't you?
You can download posts that anyone can open without logging in. Private accounts, deleted posts, drafts and posts blocked in your region are out of reach, because TikTok does not hand those files to the public web.
| Type of post | Works? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Public video | Yes | TikTok serves the file to any visitor |
| Public photo slideshow | Yes | Every image is a public file |
| Public story | Yes, while it is live | Stories expire, so save them early |
| Private account post | No | Only approved followers can see it |
| Deleted post | No | The file is gone from TikTok |
| Draft | No | Drafts never leave the creator's phone |
| Region-blocked post | No | TikTok refuses the request |
There is one more case. Some creators switch off downloads for their posts. If TikTok does not serve the file, we cannot get it, and no TikTok video downloader can either.
What is in the download menu?
After you paste a link you see a short menu of files. Each one is a copy that TikTok already stores for that post, so the choice depends on the post itself and not on our tool.
| Button | Format | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 without watermark | MP4, H.264 | Plays on almost any phone, TV or editor |
| HD | MP4, often H.265 (HEVC) | Sharpest picture, smaller file |
| Audio | M4A or MP3 | Music, voice-overs, podcasts |
| Photos | JPG, one per image | Slideshow posts |
Why is the sound often an M4A file?
M4A is simply an audio-only MPEG-4 file, the same family as MP4. Wikipedia notes that audio-only MPEG-4 files generally use the .m4a extension. A 15-second TikTok sound comes out at roughly 0.25 MB, small enough to text to a friend.
Do you always get every button?
No. A post with no HD copy shows no HD button, and a video post shows no photo list. If a button is missing, TikTok did not store that version for the post.
Watermark or no watermark: which copy should you pick?
Pick the MP4 without watermark in most cases. It has no bouncing TikTok logo and no username stamp, so it is the cleaner file for editing your own clips or keeping an archive. Credit the creator yourself when you share someone else's work.
When does the watermarked copy make sense?
- You want the creator's name to travel with the clip, for example in a group chat.
- You are reposting a friend's video with their blessing and want the source obvious.
- You need proof of where a clip came from, for a report or a complaint.
For your own posts, the file without the logo is usually the right call. It looks better on Instagram, YouTube Shorts or in a school slideshow.
How do you copy a TikTok link on each device?
On a phone you copy the link from the Share menu; on a computer you copy the page address. Every TikTok video downloader needs that link, so this is the only step that changes from one device to another.
| Device | Where the link is | Where the file lands |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | TikTok app: Share, then Copy link | Files app, Downloads folder |
| Android phone | TikTok app: Share, then Copy link | Downloads, via Chrome's tray |
| Windows PC | Address bar on tiktok.com | Your browser's download folder |
| Mac | Address bar on tiktok.com | The Downloads folder in Finder |
What does a correct link look like?
A full link usually starts with tiktok.com and contains the creator's handle and a long number. Short share links from the app also work. If you pasted only part of the address, copy it again from the start.
Where does the video go on an iPhone?
When you use the TikTok video downloader on an iPhone, the file saved from Safari goes to the Files app, in the Downloads folder. From there you can move it into Photos with the Share button.
Apple's guide to finding downloaded files on iPhone lists the path: open Files, tap Browse, then tap Downloads. If the folder is not on the Browse screen, Apple says to tap iCloud Drive.
How do you move the MP4 into Photos?
- Open Files and go to Downloads.
- Touch and hold the MP4, then tap Share.
- Tap Save Video. It now sits in your camera roll.
Where does the video go on Android?
On Android, Chrome saves what the TikTok video downloader gives you to your default download location and shows it in the download tray once it finishes. Open the tray or your Files app to play it.
Google's help page on downloading a file in Chrome explains that a file is saved in your default download location, and that an icon shows progress near the address bar on a computer.
Why can't I find it in my gallery?
Some gallery apps only scan the camera folder. Open the Downloads folder in your file manager, or move the MP4 into the camera folder, and it will show up next to your own clips.
Can you download TikTok videos on a Windows PC or a Mac?
Yes. The TikTok video downloader works the same in any desktop browser: open the post on tiktok.com, copy the address bar, paste it here and click the file you want.
On Windows, Microsoft explains that you can check where your browser saves downloads in its settings; in Edge it is Settings, then Downloads, usually C:\Users\[your name]\Downloads.
Mac users get a step-by-step walk-through, including Safari quirks, in our guide on how to download TikTok videos on Mac.
Why won't the HD file play on some devices?
Because the HD copy is often encoded in H.265, also called HEVC. Newer phones and computers play it, but some older players, editors and TVs only understand H.264. If the HD file shows sound with a black picture, use the standard MP4 instead.
“HEIF and HEVC offer better compression than JPEG and H.264, so they use less storage space on your devices and iCloud Photos, while preserving the same visual quality.”
Wikipedia's HEVC article puts a number on it: HEVC reaches 25% to 50% better compression than H.264 at the same quality. The standard was published in 2013.
Which file should a video editor get?
Feed your editor the standard MP4 if it is an older program. Use the HD copy when your editor and your device both handle HEVC, and you will get a sharper result in a smaller file.
How fast is a download, and how long do links last?
Reading a public post takes between 0.6 and 1.8 seconds in our tests. After that, the download speed is your own connection, because the file comes straight from TikTok's own servers.
Why do download links expire after one hour?
The file links point to TikTok's delivery network and stop working after 60 minutes. If you come back later, paste the TikTok link again and you will get fresh ones in a second or two.
What happens to your link after you press Download?
Nothing is kept. Tiktokioo.com reads the public post, shows you the file links and forgets the request. We do not store the videos, we do not ask for your TikTok login and we do not build a history of what you saved.
- No account, no email, no password.
- No copy of the video on our side; the file comes from TikTok's own servers.
- Links expire after one hour.
- Details are in our privacy policy.
Is there anything to watch out for?
Only save files to a device you trust, and ignore any TikTok video downloader that asks you to install an app or an extension to download a TikTok. A plain web page is all this job needs.
Can you save only the sound, the photos or a story?
Yes. Paste the same post link and pick Audio or Photos, or use the dedicated pages. Each one shows only the files that matter for that job.
- Sound only: use the TikTok MP3 converter to keep a song clip or a voice-over as an audio file.
- Photo posts: save every slide of a TikTok slideshow as separate images.
- Stories: save a public TikTok story while it is still online.
Can it see who saved my own videos?
No tool can, since TikTok does not share that list. We explain what TikTok does show in can you see who saved your TikTok.
Is it legal to download someone else's TikTok?
Saving a public video for yourself is a different thing from reposting it. The creator owns the copyright, so reposting, selling or editing someone else's clip needs their permission or a real fair-use reason. Your own videos are always yours to save.
“You can save TikTok videos and photos to your device for offline viewing and sharing if the post creator allows others to download their content.”
The U.S. Copyright Office describes fair use as a doctrine that allows unlicensed use in certain cases, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship and research. Each case is weighed on its own facts.
What is a safe rule of thumb?
- Save your own posts freely.
- Watch other people's clips offline for yourself.
- Ask before you repost, and always credit the creator.
- Never pass off another person's video as your own.
Downloader, Save video or screen recording: which is better?
A downloader gives you the original file without the logo. TikTok's Save video gives you the same clip with the watermark. A screen recording copies whatever is on screen, buttons and all, so it is the last resort.
| TikTok video downloader | In-app Save video | Screen recording | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Watermark | None | Moving logo and username | Whatever is on screen |
| Picture quality | Original file, HD when stored | Original file | Re-encoded, often softer |
| Separate sound file | Yes | No | No |
| Works on a computer | Yes | App only | Yes, with extra software |
| Respects creator's download setting | Yes | Yes | No |
TikTok's help page notes that if you do not see the option to save a video, the creator does not allow it. Treat that as a no, whatever tool you use.
A download failed: what should you check first?
Usually the post is no longer public, the link is incomplete, or the file links have expired. Copy a fresh link from TikTok and try again in a new tab; that fixes most cases.
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Post not found" | Deleted, private or region-blocked | Open it in TikTok while logged out to check |
| Nothing happens on paste | Part of the link is missing | Copy the whole link again |
| Download link gives an error | Links expired after one hour | Paste the TikTok link again |
| Sound but no picture | HD file is HEVC | Use the standard MP4 |
| No HD button | TikTok has no HD copy | Use the standard MP4 |
How do you keep a tidy archive of your own TikToks?
Turn on TikTok's Save to device setting for new posts, and use the downloader for older ones. TikTok itself recommends downloading your videos before you post so you keep offline copies.
- Before posting, tap More options on the Post screen and switch Save to device on.
- For older posts, paste each link here and save the MP4 without watermark.
- Rename files with the date and topic, for example 2026-10-recipe-pasta.mp4.
- Keep a second copy in cloud storage or on a computer.
You are far from alone. Wikipedia reports that in the first quarter of 2022 TikTok had over 100 million monthly active users in the United States and 23 million in the UK, and that TikTok and Douyin together hit one billion downloads in February 2019.

Frequently asked questions
Is Tiktokioo.com connected to tiktokio.com?
No. Tiktokioo.com is an independent tool and is not affiliated with tiktokio.com, TikTok or ByteDance. People who type "tiktokio" or "tiktokkio" sometimes land here; the names look alike, but the sites and the people behind them are different.
Do I pay anything to use this TikTok video downloader?
Yes. There is no fee, no sign-up and no cap on how many public posts you save.
Do I need an app or a browser extension?
No. Everything happens on this web page in Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox or any other modern browser.
Does the MP4 really have no watermark?
The standard MP4 and the HD copy come without the moving TikTok logo and username stamp, as long as TikTok serves a clean version for that post.
Why is the HD file smaller than I expected?
The HD copy is often HEVC (H.265), which Wikipedia says compresses 25% to 50% better than H.264 at the same quality. Smaller does not mean worse here.
What about posts from private accounts?
No. Private, deleted, draft and region-blocked posts are not served to the public, so the downloader cannot open them.
Some videos download and one does not. Why?
That creator has probably switched off downloads. If TikTok does not serve the file, we cannot get it.
How long do the download links work?
One hour. After that, paste the TikTok link again to get fresh links.
Do you keep my videos or my links?
No. Files come straight from TikTok's own servers and nothing is stored on our side.
How do I get only the music from a TikTok?
Pick Audio in the menu, or use the TikTok to MP3 page. A 15-second sound is about 0.25 MB as M4A.
